Over a million iPhones have been sold. Have you: bought one, considered it, or decided it's not for you?
I bought an iPhone the day they were released back in June for both professional and personal reasons (after all, I write about tech for a living). Barring a few quirks and lacking features, it is hands down the best and most enjoyable mobile phone I've ever owned. Syncing my contacts with my computer so I don't have to constantly change information between the two is a dream, and having the full internet and my favorite iTunes stuff with me all in one device is darn nice.
Some of the quirks are admittedly a bummer though. For example: you can't text message more than one person at a time (yet), and you can't search e-mail. But those problems are part of the reason I like the iPhone so much (no, seriously, just hear me out). The fact that Apple makes it dead-simple to update the iPhone with new software through iTunes just like the iPod means that it can add new features that owners request. In fact, it's already done this with three updates so far—Apple has added new e-mail features, fixed some of those little quirks all mobile phones have and, more recently, added the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store for wireless shopping wherever you go.
I would definitely recommend this phone for most people, but it obviously won't fit the bill for everyone. People who live and die by having their entire e-mail archive with them at all times (and searchable) should probably look elsewhere. But for most folks who carry around an iPod and a mobile phone for at least part of their daily work (or want to), I think the iPhone is one of the best gadgets available for the money, and it will only get better with time since Apple has openly promised upgrades and new features in the coming months and years.
Have you ever served on a jury? What was your experience?
Submitted by jacolily.
While I haven't served on a jury yet, I've received a summons that I've had to bump back a few times. Too many crucial events are cropping up that I simply cannot get around, and some of my fundamental beliefs conflict too much with Colorado law, so they probably aren't going to use me anyway.
If you could eat anything you wanted, and not have to worry about gaining weight/being unhealthy/inhumane, what would you totally pig out on?
Submitted by Jay.
Chips a' Hoy cookies and Mountain Dew. I know, so very high school of me, but there it is.
Actually... also: sushi. That's right, salmon roll sushi - with or without little avacado slices. God I'd eat it 3 times a day if I could afford it.
What do you do to ensure you get a good night's sleep?

The only thing I usually want is some sort of soothing music, which means either Enya, Enigma or Selected Ambient Works Volume 1 or 2 from Aphex Twin.
Do you have any phobias?
Submitted by Amirul B Ruslan.
Can I claim having a phobia of phobias? I'm terribly afraid of becoming afraid of one thing or another. I mean, what happens if that fear of fear hampers my daily routines?
But seriously, I think I have a minor phobia of being alone and making big changes in my friends. Coming out of high school, I picked a University in my state that wasn't too far from home and where I knew I had a few friends already attending. When I moved from that U to Colorado, I did it with two of my closest friends at the time, and now that Jessi and I have made the decision to move to Chicago, I'm afraid I won't meet anyone as cool or rocktastic as the new friends we've made here in Colorado (yea, you know who you are).
What are your resolutions for 2007?
I'd like to start by saying Happy New Year's to one and all, and to all a good year! I have a lot I want to do this year, but not in that 'completely unrealistic resolutions/todo list that I'll just start feeling guilty for not doing somewhere around September' lot to do. I more or less am taking bigger steps towards projects and other things I'm already working on, such as:
- Managing my time better so I can spend more of it with Jessi,
my wife. We were married in July of 06, and between an internship,
bouts of school anxiety and burnout and other things of such
time-sapping nature, we didn't get to enjoy as much of each other as we
would have liked.
- Using Traineo to help track my weight loss goals. I totally want to trade in this snack pack for the six pack I used to have.
- Graduating
in Spring 07. My college career has been up and down between
f/t and p/t since 1998 (including 1.5 years off to get in-state CO
tuition), and it's finally coming to a climax this Spring. Jessi's so
proud and excited, I sometimes worry she's going to explode when she
starts talking about it. As extra motivation to get over my burnout and
to stay the course, she's going to sponsor roughly 90% or so of a
MacBook Pro as a graduation present, and she's also taking me on my
first trip to New York.
- Putting more serious time into blogging here and at 1FPS, my tech and culture blog. I absolutely love writing, and I have some strong ideas for this year (the title, by the way, stands for 1 Frame Per Second).
- Of course, sinking more of my teeth into blogging at TUAW and Download Squad,
my two 'day job' blogs that I absolutely love. I have some big ideas
for the TUAW podcast, and I can't wait to produce more interesting
episodes with the team once I'm gradumated in Spring.
Of
course, I have all sorts of smaller goals like watching more Family Guy
and Scrubs, but this list is a good summary of the big hitters. Wish me
luck!
What books did you love as a child?

Wow, between this QotD and my last post about Beakman's World, this is turning into a day to walk down memory lane.

- My wife, Jessi
- technology and the many positive ways it can benefit humanity
- participating in the community
- making people laugh - besides my wife, this is probably the thing I love most
- snowboarding - can't wait for school to be over
- the outdoors - can't wait for school to be over
- music, both listening to and making it (again: school)
- blogging and writing in general; I love the English language
- biking
- my friends
- coffee, though my passion at the moment outweighs my knowledge of it
- warm blankets on cold evenings
- any movie that makes me feel just as warm through its craft and inspiration
What is your favorite scent?

That's easy: my wife, Jessi's. Morning, noon and night, even when she isn't wearing perfume.
In honor of Vox's launch tomorrow, what's your favorite feature or aspect of Vox?
Hands down - the stellar integration with other sites and services like Flickr, YouTube and Amazon (though I would love the iTunes Store to make that list). Vox is light years ahead of everyone else when it comes to making it easy for users to build a site and link to their favorite stuff - and I should know, because I have to check out Vox and their competition for some websites I write for, namely TUAW and Download Squad. Being able to click a button or two to add a YouTube video to a post, or list all my favorite books from Amazon in my sidebar is really, really impressive. Great work Vox! I can't wait to see what you have coming down the pipeline.
